First Lesbian Super PAC Launches Today

LPAC is a Political Action Committee, formed by a group of committed activists and donors, to positively influence the current political and social landscape. After decades of being a small subset of players in women’s rights and LGBT rights political efforts, the women of LPAC are stepping up to get organized like never before, aiming to give lesbians a real and meaningful seat at the table. With significant resources behind us, LPAC plans to make a true impact for lesbians in the 2012 election cycle and beyond.

LPAC will support candidates who champion a range of issues that impact lesbians and their families, these include:

  • Ending discriminatory treatment of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) individuals and their families;
  • Supporting sexual and reproductive freedom and women’s access to quality healthcare; and,
  • Furthering social, racial, and economic justice for all Americans.

I’m so very excited and happy to see a group forming to really take the lead in supporting LGBT rights. I think it’s amazing what can be accomplished in small groups when they are brought together by a great idea. I hope that this committee really does some great things without turning into another Super PAC gone awry. I also hope that they really pick excellent people who not only support gay rights but also have an upstanding record and will represent the community as a whole. I’m hoping it’s not another politician  who is only willing to help for political gain.

I hope that you all check out the website and decide for yourself what LPAC is about and if it’s a group you’d like to support. I really think it is a pretty great idea. I hope that it can actually create the change and get the support for the LGBT community that they so rightly deserve. While I like that this is a group that directly focuses on issues that impact lesbians and their families, I think it should really be a bit broader in scope and really envelope more of the gay community as a whole. Hopefully, even with though it has such a narrow scope, it will help in bringing about a positive change for women’s and gay rights in the near future.
